His team lost to Liverpool 2-7, Lincoln City coach was amazed by the attitude of Jurgen Klopp

Lincoln City coach, Michael Appleton praised the attitude of Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp after the meeting of the two teams in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool losers

In this match, Lincoln City had to be four goals behind at halftime. Surprisingly, Klopp did field a team containing several first team players, including Virgil van Dijk.

Even though they scored two goals in the second half through the actions of Tayo Edun and Lewis Montsma, the hosts still had to lose by a landslide score of 2-7.

Michael Appleton's compliments

Shortly after the long whistle sounded, Appleton was approached by Klopp. Appleton was amazed by the gesture shown by the man from Germany.

"Jurgen came and said that we played well and good luck for the rest of the season, which is a nice touch from him," said Appleton as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

"He did a great job over the last few years. Today they appeared with a team that has a good mix of experienced players and young players," he added.

"I think we witnessed a great finish from Liverpool in the first half. If we put the bucket in the top corner they would be able to kick right at him every time. There were some fantastic finishes. You are punished by a team like this," he said.

Michael Appleton's analysis

Furthermore, Appleton admits that the quality of the players of the two teams cannot lie. However, he still regrets why they only scored two goals in the second half.

"We were punished by one or two mistakes. But the truth is, the difference in the first half was the finish. I think all the goals apart from maybe the fourth goal were right in the top corner so it was very difficult for goalkeeper Alex [Palmer]," said Appleton.

"In the second half there was no doubt we created chances. It's a shame we only scored two goals and I feel sorry for the boys. The plan is to try and win the second half, it's that simple," he said.
